Our policy in respect of the environment is clear and straight forward, we believe we have a responsibility to protect the environment as much as possible on a local and global level. We are and will continue to strive to make sure our business does not have an negative impact on future generations.

Our objective is to achieve continuous year on year environmental improvement. We comply with all current legislation and where possible will try to be ahead. Our programme is based around the remit: Reducing, Reuse and Recycle.

Waste, packaging and Recycling
Gilt Edged recognises that waste and packaging cannot continue to grow. Our policy is to reduce waste to deliver change to our staff and customers and society. We accept that certain goods will need to be disposed of however we intend to keep these to a minimum and as a last resort.

Our Record for 2006:

- 88.5% of our total waste was sent for recycling
- 7% was reused
- 4.5% of our waste went to landfill

We have set ourselves the following targets and aims:

- Reduce the amount of packaging, we receive from our suppliers by 10% p.a for the next 3 years
- Increase the reused element of packaging to 20% with the next 3 years
- Make our own packaging re-user friendly
- Increase the % of recycled materials we use in packaging our goods

Waste in our factory:

- We comply fully with all the UK waste packaging regulations and are fully regulated each year

Improving energy efficiency

We recognise the need to improve energy efficiency throughout all our operations and in doing so reduce our carbon footprint. We are doing this by:

- Improve energy efficiency in our offices through the reduction in wastage
- Reduce the volume of CO2 emissions that we produced as a business by 5% per year for the next 3 years
- Our company car policy encourages the use of lower emission cars
- Reducing the volume of water usage by 5% by 2008
- Computerised management systems are being put into place to minimise unwanted wastage

Our Products
In the design, development and manufacture of our products we endeavour to use materials that are environmentally friendly, we are doing this by:

- The paper used in our products is sourced from sustainable sources
- New products are being designed that reduce the amount of paper being used.
- We have banned the use of chlorine based inks in our products
- Introduction of a recycled product range

Our Staff
We appreciate that our staff are the biggest driver in our desire to reduce the impact that we cause on the environment and as such we encourage all staff to consider the effect that their actions are having on the environment. We are initiating the following:

- Staff are encourage to help with an environmental project and if appropriate we will provide time off in lieu to assist
- Staff can participate in the Government funded bicycle loan scheme
- Introduction of a working party to encourage an environmentally friendly workplace
